The Shelly LoRa Add‑On is a cost‑effective expansion module designed for compatible Gen3 and Gen4 devices, including models like the Plus 1 Gen3 and Plus 1PM Gen3. Using the LoRa (Long Range) protocol, it enables devices to exchange data over exceptionally long distances without relying on external infrastructure. Unlike LoRaWAN, which depends on gateways or cell‑tower‑style transmitters, Shelly’s LoRa Add‑On communicates directly between devices with no additional hardware required.

With a maximum range of up to 5 km, it’s well suited for wide‑area applications—from city‑level automation such as traffic‑light control based on weather or time, to long‑distance IoT links across farms, multi‑building sites, or large campuses. Beyond range, the LoRa Add‑On also improves signal penetration through challenging materials like concrete and metal, strengthening wireless communication inside buildings.

Installation is intentionally simple: the module attaches directly to a compatible Shelly device, requiring minimal setup to begin extending long‑range connectivity.
