Description

Small, light weight and packed with advanced sensory technology, the FIBARO Motion Sensor is completely wireless and battery powered. As well as being a motion sensor it is also a light and temperature sensor, and has a built in accelerometer that will alert you if anyone has tampered with the sensor. A built in LED indicator lets occupants know the ambient temperature around the device, the temperature sensor relays information to the Fibaro Heat Controllers for precision control. The sensitivity of the motion detector can also be set to your preferred level, great for if you have pets at home while you’re out of the house. The Motion Sensor is also one of the of devices that have built in Z-Wave range tester.

At less than 5mm around the FIBARO Motion Sensor is one of the smallest on the market, with its minimalistic and simple approach to design it will look great in any setting. The Motion Sensor can be mounted almost anywhere, each sensor comes with a smart bracket that allows it to be affixed to walls, ceilings, window cubbies or anywhere that needs monitoring discreetly. Thanks to this design the Motion Sensor can be moved at anytime to a new location, the Z-Wave network will accommodate for the change ensuring complete control and comfort.

Compatibility is key

The Motion Sensor works seamlessly with other Z-Wave devices, take advantage of the light sensor and pair it with the lighting in your house. When the sensor detects a low or high enough lumen count the lights can respond accordingly, the lighting in each room of the house can be dependent on actual ambient light. The home can greet your presence by pairing the motion sensor to the lighting in the hallway, or react to an intruder by flooding the room with light and activating the alarm.

Once the sensor registers movement the LED indicator will display the corresponding colour to inform you of the rooms ambient temperature. Setting up automated scenes based on the light and heat readings can help to reduce your carbon foot print, and your bills.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q

What is a Motion Sensor?

A

The FIBARO Motion Sensor is a universal Z-Wave multi-sensor. Along with motion detection the device measures the temperature and light intensity. The sensor has a built-in accelerometer to detect any tampering of the device. The FIBARO Motion Sensor is a battery powered device, designed to be installed quickly and easily on any surface. The LED indicator signals motion, temperature level, operating mode and can be used to see if the device is within the range of Z-Wave network. The motion sensor can be used for lighting scenes and security monitoring systems.

Q

Is battery powering mode the only one available?

A

Yes, it cannot be supplied in any other way. There is no built-in connector for a low voltage supply.

Q

How to configure the earthquake detector?

A

It is very simple. Motion Sensor can be configured to work as an earthquake detector by setting the parameter 24 value to 4. Reports with scale of the vibrations (dimensionless) will be sent at the time intervals specified in parameter 22.

Q

Internal temperature sensor measures overstated temperature. Can I compensate it?

A

You can set the value to be added to the actual temperature, measured by the sensor in parameter 66.

Q

How can I adjust sensitivity to avoid detecting small moving objects?

A

Motion Sensor’s sensitivity may be set in the first parameter. The lower the value, the more sensitive the PIR sensor is.

Q

Can I define the difference between night and day, in terms of light intensity?

A

Yes, of course. Parameter 9 (night/day) defines the difference between night and day, in terms of light intensity, used in parameter 8.
Available settings: 1 – 65535
Default settings: 200 (200 lux)

Q

How can I determine the part of the day in which the PIR sensor will be active?

A

Parameter 8 (PIR sensor operating mode) determines the part of the day in which the PIR sensor will be active. This parameter influences only the motion reports and associations. Tamper, light intensity and temperature measurements will still be active, regardless of this parameter settings.
0 – PIR sensor always active
1 – PIR sensor active during the day only
2 – PIR sensor active during the night only.

Q

I would like to determine the way in which the LED diode behaves after motion has been detected.

A

Parameter 80 (LED signaling mode) determines the way in which LED diode behaves after motion has been detected.
Values 1-9 = single long blink at the moment of reporting motion. No other motion will be indicated until alarm is cancelled.
Values 10-18 = single long blink at the moment of reporting motion and one short blink each time the motion is detected again.
Values 19-26 = single long blink at the moment of reporting motion and two short blinks each time the motion is detected again.

Q

My Motion Sensor does not detect multiple triggers one after the other. Why?

A

You have to adjust the motion sensor’s blind time (insensitivity) in parameter 2. After this period of time the sensor will be able to detect motion. The longer the insensitivity period, the longer the battery life is. If the sensor is required to detect motion quickly, the period of time may be shortened.

Q

How about the range of the sensor and its detection angles?

A

Actual range of the sensor can be influenced by environment conditions, but it is up to 7 meters. Its view-angle is very wide.

Q

How long does the LED diode glow in the flashlight mode?

A

The LED glows in white for 10 seconds. Any motion detected thereafter extends the glowing by another 10 seconds.

Q

Is it possible to turn off the LED diode light completely?

A

Yes, you must change advanced parameter 80 value to 0

Q

Can it be used outside?

A

No, it is for indoor use only.

Q

My Motion Sensor is using up its battery life quickly. Why?

A

If the battery discharges quickly, please check the following conditions which may result in reducing the battery life:
• Wake up interval is too short – it is recommended to lengthen the interval.
• Temperature and light intensity reports are sent too frequently – modify the advanced configuration settings to decrease the frequency.
• If associated devices or the Z-Wave network main controller are disconnected from the power source it will cause the sensor to frequently attempt to reconnect to those devices which will result in shortening the battery life.

Q

I am getting false motion alarms. What may be the reason?

A

Current range of the sensor can be influenced by the environment conditions. Check for any moving objects within the sensor’s detection area, such as trees swaying in the wind, cars passing by or windmills. False motion alarms may be caused by moving masses of air and heat as well.

Q

How many devices can be associated with Motion Sensor?

A

The FIBARO Motion Sensor allows for controlling 5 regular and 5 multichannel devices per an association group, out of which 1 field is reserved for the Z-Wave network main controller.

Q

Is it possible to integrate Motion Sensor with a wired alarm system?

A

No, the FIBARO Motion Sensor can work only as a wireless Z-Wave device.
