Description

The FIBARO Smoke Sensor is a small, light-weight device with an aesthetically pleasing design and manufactured from robust materials. It uses temperature and photoelectric sensors to easily detect flaming or smouldering fires, the device is loaded with an acoustic alarm and RGB indicator. No need for unsightly wiring or complicated installation, the device is battery powered and simple to use. The sensor is also equipped with a built in electronic recording device, to better analyse incidents.

Looks grate, works great

The FIBARO Smoke Sensor is furnished with a highly polished grille, but its not just there to look great. In fact its one of the devices most important features, the electrochemically shaped perforations help guide even the smallest amount of smoke into the sensors inner chamber.

Smarter than it looks

Not all fires are the same and some materials burn without smoking, so the engineers at FIBARO included a temperature sensor. The device will detect rapid changes in temperature and read them as a threat.

Stronger than it looks

The FIBARO Smoke Sensor is manufactured from materials resistant to heats of up to 200 degrees celsius, threats and alerts are stored on the main controller and sensor’s memory for detailed analysis of incidents.

The heat of the moment

Just as fires are not all the same, room temperatures and uses can also vary. This can make determining if there is fire present in a room more difficult, and requires a subtle approach. To prevent false alarms the FIBARO Smoke Sensor’s sensitivity can be calibrated for the room it resides in. Where smoke and heat is unexpected such as a bedrooms, the sensitivity should be set to maximum to ensure a speedy response time. In rooms where heat and smoke is to be expected such as boiler rooms and kitchens, the sensitivity can be set lower to avoid being triggered.

Fully integrated

In an emergency there is no time to waste and every second counts, get out of the building and let your system take care of the rest. Integrating the FIBARO Smoke Sensor into your networked devices allows the system to run complex scenes in the event of an alarmed event.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q

What is the FIBARO Smoke Sensor?

A

The FIBARO Smoke Sensor is a universal, battery-powered, optical Z-Wave smoke sensor. Smoke detection is signaled with siren and LED diode blinking. The optical sensor detects smoke at an early stage of fire, often before flames appear and temperature starts to rise significantly. Moreover, the device has a built-in temperature sensor, which can also trigger the alarm once the specified temperature threshold is exceeded. The FIBARO Smoke Sensor is designed to be placed on the wall or ceiling.

Q

Every 30 minutes I hear one, short acoustic signal, what does it mean?

A

It’s lack of the Z-Wave range alarm. You can set the time interval of signaling in parameter 32.

Q

Is it possible to use Smoke Sensor to measure temperature and control the heating/air condition system by its readings?

A

Yes, built-in temperature sensor may be used as a separate device.

Q

What type of scene action (on, breached, etc.) do I need to select if the smoke alarm triggers?

A

You should choose action called “breached”.

Q

My Smoke Sensor is quickly discharging the battery. Why?

A

Make sure communication parameters are set to default. Short polling time interval may cause such behavior.

Q

How to test if the FIBARO Smoke Sensor is working (without a real smoke)?

A
  1. Make sure the device is powered
  2. Press and hold the B-button
  3. The visual indicator will glow white and the short alarm will sound
  4. Keep holding the B-button
  5. After 3 seconds from the first beep smoke chamber operation will be checked
Triggering fire alarm and beep mean positive result and should occur within 10 seconds. No fire alarm means that the sensor is malfunctioning.

Q

How can I trigger the siren remotely? What is the command class to be used?

A

It is not possible. This device is the sensor only, not a Z-Wave siren.

Q

Can the smoke detector be installed vertically? Would it still work properly?

A

It will work fine and it is considered acceptable, but the best position is always on your ceiling.

Q

I cannot see the temperature measured by the sensor. Where is it reported?

A

Look for the separate device in the interface, which reports the temperature.

Q

Does Smoke Sensor have 230V power option?

A

No, the first generation (FGSS-001) allowed to be powered via 12/24V DC. FGSD-002 may be battery powered only.

Q

Does it work separately if the Home Center controller is offline for some reason?

A

Yes. It can work as a battery operated smoke detector. In fact it does not need to be added to any Z-Wave controller at all. It can just detect the smoke and signal alarm with siren. Of course if you add it to a Z-Wave controller, you will find whole spectrum of possibilities.

Q

FIBARO Smoke Sensor is an optical sensor, so how will it work if smoke occurs at night?

A

The principle of optical sensors operation is based on two diodes (transmitting and receiving). Transmitting diode works in the infrared range. Amount of the light outside does not matter.

Q

Internal temperature sensor measures overstated temperature. Can I compensate it?

A

Yes, but such functionality has been moved from advanced parameters to the interface of FIBARO System. Go to Advanced Configuration tab to set the value to be added to or deducted from the current temperature measured by internal temperature sensor in order to compensate the difference between air temperature and temperature under the ceiling.

Q

May the sensor work as a Z-Wave signal repeater?

A

No, battery powered devices are not able to do so.

Q

How can I cancel the alarm?

A

You have to wait until smoke level drops.

Q

How to arm or disarm the Sensor?

A

FIBARO Smoke Sensor is always armed and ready to detect smoke presence.

Q

I replaced the battery because FIBARO interface signaled it is low, but I still see red, blinking battery icon. How to reset a battery level?

A

The battery level report is sent at the same time as sensor’s wake up. You can wait specified period of time or perform manual wake up by triple clicking the B-button.

Q

How many devices can be associated with the Smoke Sensor?

A

FIBARO Smoke Sensor allows for controlling 5 regular or 5 multichannel devices per an association group in groups 2-5 and one device in the 1st group.

Q

What is the Alarm Broadcast?

A

Broadcast mode allows to send alarms to all devices within the FIBARO Smoke Sensor’s range with a priority over other communications.

Q

Can I turn off acoustic and visual signals?

A

Yes, you can disable them in parameters 3 and 4. Remember it does not apply to major alarms, like Fire alarm.

Q

I notice from time to time the occurence of false alarms. How can I avoid them?

A

Try to adjust the sensitivity to smoke presence by setting the parameter 1 to 3 (LOW Sensitivity).
