Frequently Asked Questions

Q

What to do if your Hive Thermostat Mini is offline?

A

There a few necessary steps:

  1. Remove the thermostat from the backplate on the wall and take it close to the receiver near the boiler.
  2. Turn the thermostat on and off by removing the batteries and put them straight back in.
  3. Mount the thermostat back on the wall, there should then be a ‘Reconnecting’ message displayed.
  4. Once an inside temperature is displayed, try turning the heating on, if it is on a little flame will appear under the temperature
  5. When the status and central heating lights on the receiver are green you are done.

Q

What’s changing with Hive radiator valves in Hub version 1.0.0-7012-X102?

A

Hive have made changes to how Hive radiator valves work whilst on schedule and when utilising heat on demand.

Q

How do I advance my heating from the Hive app?

A

In order to advance your heating it is necessary to be set in ‘schedule’ mode. Click the advance button below the mode selection bar on the control page to advance to your next scheduled time slot.

It’s important to note – this is a heating only feature & is not currently available for hot water.

Q

Why can't I see schedule Assist?

A

If you are using Hive’s smart TRVs, then you are already saving on your heating through the schedule optimisation feature ‘heat on demand’

However, Hive are working on a way to combine Schedule Assist with the heat on demand feature.

Q

What is Schedule Assist?

A

Schedule Assist is a new feature on the Hive Heating Plus service designed to optimise your heating schedule to save money and energy.

It makes suggestions on how to be more energy efficient by analysing your current schedule.

This could be suggestions such as shortening your evening heating schedule by 30 minutes or lowering your temperature by a couple of degrees. The savings will be displayed in pounds and pennies, just click ‘yes’ and the changes will be made.

You’ll find Schedule Assist in the Heating Budget Tracker – just tap the card to get started.

Q

How do Hive calculate your savings on the Carbon Calculator?

A

The carbon savings are calculated in the same way as the monetary savings. When the Heating Plus service is activated, you will give the details of your current energy consumption by providing a recent energy bill. From this, Hive can track if you use more or less than your annual consumption using Heating Plus. You should be using less energy than your current forecast, therefore this will show as a saving.

Q

What can I do from the heating control screen in the Hive app?

A

There are numerous features in the Heating control screen:

  1. You can switch between your editing screens: Control, Schedule and Actions.
  2. Access and view your heating usage. Daily view is available to non heating plus customers, however if you subscribe to heating plus you can view your daily, weekly and yearly usage in both time and cost.
  3. Access thermostat settings: Device info, Geolocation, Heat on Demand, Ready by, Renaming your heating zone and Holiday mode.
  4. View the current status if your hive heating.
  5. Temperature control – swipe down to increase the temperature and swipe upwards to decrease the temperature. In this section there will also be any schedule, manual or frost protection temperature settings.
  6. If you have your Hive heating on schedule mode and you would like to skip a schedule slot, all you need to do is press on the advance feature to move to the next slot. This is useful for when your house is already warm enough and you want to switch to your next cooler schedule section (if set-up like this), to save on energy.
  7. There is a heating boost function, where you can provide a quick boost to your heating, this can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 6 hours! When the boost is complete the heating will revert to it’s previous settings
  8. Switch between modes: Manual, Schedule and Off.
  9. Feature available with the Hive heating plus subscription. Monitor your monthly budget to maximise efficiency of your Hive heating and save on your heating bills.
